The 4 Biggest Myths About Going Online As A Chiropractor
There are quite a few myths about taking your chiropractic practice online. I’m going to do my best to dispel some of those myths for you here and shed some light on the reality of taking a part of your chiropractic practice online.
Myth #1
Myth number one is that taking the part of your practice online means adjusting people virtually.
The truth is that nothing replaces the work that you do with your hands, but that your work with your hands is not the only service you have to offer.
A lot of what you do with your patients is from your head and from your heart. It’s based upon all of the knowledge and experience that you’ve gained over the years of practice and all the time that you’ve spent learning and researching. On top of that, you have your own life experience, which is irreplaceable, and it’s all value that you bring to your practice without lifting a finger!
When I say “take a part of your practice online” I’m talking about packaging the knowledge that you have in your brain and your heart, so that you can help more people instead of one person at a time. This is where you start to really experience a choice in how you spend your time and increase your earning potential because, if you help one person at a time always and forever, there’s only so many people you can help because there’s only so many hours in a day.
You’ve got to give some time to resting, recovering, recuperating, eating, going to the bathroom, spending time with your family. Those are all things that are non-compromisable. If the only way you have to increase your income is to adjust more people, you’re going to be limited, either in income or in the time you can spend living life. I’m encouraging you to think differently about business.
Some people think this means that you have to put money before people. I am not saying that, but when you look at your real financial goals, you have to look at what it will take for you to reach them. What it’s going to take is you thinking differently, thinking about your business model in a way that’s unconventional and different from how we’ve been taught to view success in our profession.
Myth #2
The second myth is that you have to have something really unique and different to offer if you want to take part of your practice online.
What is actually true is that it doesn’t have to be brand new. It just has to be from you.
If you already follow other chiropractors online, then you’ve probably noticed that many of them say the same things. We don’t really have patents on health information. I run the online group Aligned Women, and there’s someone out there who’s started using the Aligned Women name for her new program. If I sit here and I’m in scarcity, feeling like there’s not enough people to go around, not enough money to be made, worrying about people using my words and my programs, how does that serve me? When I remember that there’s actually always enough people. There’s enough money, there’s enough everything, and what is meant for me will be, then you know what? It doesn’t matter if somebody else is using the same name for their program that I’ve been using for four years already.
So the same applies to you. Stop worrying that someone has already said what you want to say. Maybe you really like to help people with weight loss, and you have a specific protocol in your office that helps people achieve weight loss in a way they haven’t before. Yet, you know that what you offer isn’t really that different from other things that are available out there and that there are other programs with the same premise. That’s OKAY! What makes yours different is that it comes from you, and that’s what’s important.
Remember, it doesn’t have to be brand new, it just has to come from you.
Myth #3
Myth number three is that you have to know everything and you have to know it now.
You know logically that this is not true, right? At the same time, it’s really easy to fall into this trap of thinking that in order to create an online course or to start a membership program that you need to know everything, and that you’ve got to be able to solve all the problems because otherwise people won’t actually pay for it.
Here’s what is actually true about this. When do you try to solve all the problems and teach everything you know all in one offer, it makes it really hard for you to sell it because the marketing, the sales, and the copy that you write about it will be confusing and vague. The more specific you can be, the more you can narrow down the problem you solve through your course or membership, the easier it will be to sell. You don’t need to know it all now. People don’t buy the thing with all the information, but they do buy the thing that is really clear about what they will get out of it.
Myth #4
The last myth is a common question. Can I be an online chiropractor if I’m only licensed in one state?
People mistakenly think that they can’t offer anything online as a chiropractor because someone might purchase something from them who lives in a different state, or country even. It’s always important to protect your liability. However, when we’re talking about online programs or courses we aren’t talking about entering into a doctor/patient relationship. Anyone can create a course, develop a program or write a book. In fact, a lot of the books that you’ve read were written by a doctor…but you didn’t hire them as your doctor, you just read the advice in their book.
I do recommend that you protect yourself using things like Terms of Service for your courses or programs so that everyone purchasing it is also clear that you aren’t offering a doctor/patient relationship. I’m not going to go over all those details here, but the moral of the story here is that you aren’t offering Telehealth, you’re creating digital assets.
Now I want you to think about which of these four myths are relevant for you? Which of these is the reason stopping you from getting your course started or from launching it out there. Explore what hearing the truth about this myth might change for you!
